transFORM Gallery is happy to announce our Summer Exhibit, Second Nature: Beauty in the Ordinary. Come and meet the artists at the opening reception sponsored by Westchester Magazine and enjoy good company, great conversation, wine and delicious hot tapas. The reception will be held at transFORM Gallery on June 12th from 6 – 9pm. The collection of artwork will be on display from June 12th through August 30th, 2014. Exhibited artists include Glenn Fischer, Anita Lobel, Dena Schutzer, Diane Drescher, Karen Fitzgerald, and Ralph Gabriner. Artist Anita Lobel will have copies of her autobiography available, a National Book Award finalist, depicting the lauded children’s book illustrator’s childhood surviving the Nazi occupation of Poland and years spent in concentration camps in Germany during the Second World War.
This show explores the beauty in everyday life and the extra dimension that life inherently holds. Interactions and seemingly regular conversations among people, the surrounding light in a setting, architecture and everyday things, reveal the inherent beauty in life. Second nature pushes the boundaries of ordinary materials.
A flower arrangement is augmented with textile influences for an increased whimsical effect.
A child’s book, a record album, these are given a second life when cut and assembled in geometric patterns.
The use of gold and silver leaf portray a boat or a bird in an other-worldly dimension.
These six artists demonstrate a way of seeing that most of us miss or take for granted. Seeing beyond the obvious, and pushing the ordinary to reveal its second nature is the focus of this show.
