transFORM Gallery Hosts The New Rochelle Arts Collective Meetup

Last Monday, transFORM Gallery happily hosted the third meet up for the New Rochelle Arts Collective.

This young group added some excitement to our Monday by organizing a “Pillow Panel Talk”. Guests were encouraged to bring their own seating for a causal yet engaging conversation.

The panel consisted of Maya Menon – manager at Backstreet Gallery and MAC board member, John Reverol – Owner of R. Patisserie Cafe and Tea Boutique, Theresa Leghorn – President of the New Rochelle Council of the Arts and our very own Kara O’Neill – transFORM’s Art Gallery Director.

Kathy Rutsch started the night by speaking about her late husband Alexander Rutsch who is currently showing at transFORM Gallery. Kathy graciously donated 9 Alexander Rutsch coffee table books, which were raffled off during the meet up.

The panel discussed the role of the arts in building social and cultural capital. The audience participated by adding creative ideas and thoughts on the topic, as well as discussing cultural events in New Rochelle.

After a clip from Chris Gethard’s YouTube video, Gristmill Distilleries of the Adirondacks, generously offered samples of their organic and locally sourced corn whiskey. Guests mixed their spirits with fresh lemonade while enjoying light refreshments – a perfect combination on a hot summer night.

Thank you to the NRAC and everyone for making this such a well attended event. It was truly a great night filled with interesting conversation, compelling thoughts and creative people.

Tracy-headshot

Artist Tracy Helgeson paints the classic subject of America’s rural culture and agricultural community, capturing an era once forgotten, yet preserved at the same time. There is a modern, otherworldly take on her subjects and locations.

Tracy explains it best, “In creating a painting, my intent is to capture an evocative feeling and an essence of a landscape, structure or person that I feel a connection to. The images that I choose usually have a basis in reality, but I often alter composition, color and light to more accurately express my feelings about how and what I see.

I truly appreciate the process of painting; the texture of the surfaces that I prepare, the richness of the colors and glazes that I choose, the softness of a brush, the smell of the paint, medium and solvent and the excitement of creating an image.”
